With winter well and truly here, and many of us still working from home, it’s time to invest in yourself with warm and light naturally-produced fibres that will make you feel good, everyday. Castlecrag’s Everyday Cashmere, a favourite of many Australian fashion industry icons, sells sustainably sourced cashmere pieces that will last. After five years spent living overseas and travelling frequently between Asia and Australia, Castle Cove local Jennifer Hart adopted a mantra of travelling light with key wardrobe pieces that felt and looked great. This soon led to a business idea, and when combined with her marketing and PR background, plus contacts in Mongolia, Everyday Cashmere was born. “Back in 2010 Australians were on the go, and having cashmere as part of your ‘everyday’ wardrobe for trans-seasonal travel was popular. There is a symbiotic relationship between wearing cashmere and feeling good. The garment gives you some thing back. It’s soft, light warm and sustainably produced,” says Jennifer. All garments produced for Everyday Cashmere are sourced from family run farms in Mongolia (visited personally by Jennifer) with strict quality control procedures from hand feeding the goats to hand packing the cashmere. “We are not fast fashion. Our customers understand that we are small and specialist and that purchasing great wardrobe pieces that you can wear all year round is better than fast fashion.” And don’t be fooled into thinking you have to save your cashmere for special occasions either. As the name suggests, wearing cashmere everyday is the mantra of this business, and with people now spending more time than ever at home, building a wardrobe with beautiful foundation pieces is key. Signature pieces at Everyday Cashmere include wraps and scarves, a shrug which can be worn five different ways, cardigans, jumpers and silk and cashmere long sleeve t-shirts which are great layering pieces. There are also a variety of gorgeous colours to choose from, which are all naturally dyed. Their loungewear range includes cashmere blankets, baby blankets, track and lounge pants. And accessories for winter include cashmere socks, beanies and scarves. Some of Australian fashion’s biggest names, including former Harpers Bazaar editor Kellie Hush and fashion editor at the TODAY show Paula Joye, rave about Everyday Cashmere. Says Paula Joye, “Cashmere is an investment, buy one or two pieces a year. I love this local label. I love their philosophy, Everyday Cashmere, because cashmere can be worn everyday. Great layers in silk and cashmere feel like nothing on your body. Perfect layering pieces for work. Life is moving towards loungewear and this company does it the best.”
